Madd Honored As DMA Non-Profit Organization Of The Year
IRVING, Texas (August 12, 2004) – Today, Mothers Against Drunk
Driving was honored by The Direct Marketing Association Nonprofit
Federation (DMANF) with its 2004 Non-Profit Organization of the Year
Award at the annual DMA New York Nonprofit Conference.
"This is a tremendous honor as MADD’s success in achieving its mission
to stop drunk driving, support victims of this violent crime and prevent
underage drinking, is tied to primarily two things: funds available, which
is driven by direct marketing programs, and the tremendous work of our
volunteers and staff,” said Laura Dean-Mooney, MADD national board member.
“The majority of MADD dollars go back into programs and services.”
Over 80 percent of MADD’s expenses go towards programs, victims' services,
and educational activities, while less than 20 percent is spent on fundraising,
management and general expenses.
Each year, The DMA Nonprofit Federation recognizes a nonprofit organization
for its exceptional efforts and vision. Criteria for the Nonprofit Organization
of the Year Award include: demonstrated excellence in the pursuit of its mission;
recognition as a leader with a solid reputation in the nonprofit and direct
marketing communities as well as with the public at large; outstanding record
of achievement and successful financial performance during the previous year
or longer; meets the highest ethical standards of the nonprofit community;
and demonstrated long-term success using direct and interactive marketing
techniques.
In its direct marketing efforts, MADD works with: Creative Direct Response,
Inc., a fundraising agency with more than 20 years of experience in raising
funds for non-profit organizations; DialAmerica Marketing Inc., provider
of inbound & interactive and outbound telemarketing services, and The Heritage
Company, provider of outbound telemarketing services. MADD mails approximately
22,000,000 pieces of mail a year in order to raise public awareness about the
devastation of drunk driving and solutions for prevention.
The Direct Marketing Association (DMA), founded in 1917, is the largest trade
association for businesses involved in direct, database and interactive global
marketing. DMA has 4,700 member companies in the United States and 53 foreign
nations on six continents.
MADD is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit public charity with approximately 2 million
members and supporters, and affiliates in Australia, Canada, Japan, Puerto Rico,
and Sweden. Since 1980, MADD has helped pass thousands of lifesaving laws,
helped saved nearly 270,000 lives, and served more than 22,000 victims/survivors
of drunk driving just last year. Alcohol-related traffic deaths have decreased
by 43 percent since MADD’s founding.
